Yellow Jackets are true wasps of the Genera Vespula and Dolichovespula. They live in large underground colonies that grow rapidly over the summer to contain as many as 4000 to 5000 workers. They are especially abundant in years with dry springs and can become plentiful on trout streams from August to October. Trout do become fond of eating them so consider this pattern for late summer mid-day fishing. This is also a good pattern for fishing trout in lakes. Fish this pattern just as you would any other dry fly. Panfish just love this fly also so take a few to your favorite bluegill pond.
