Flying Ant: The Order; Hymenoptera ( Ants, Bees, Wasps) includes the Family; Formicidae of Ants, the most numerous of all terrestrials and serious trout food. Winged flying ants or "drones" are adult males that swarm in a mating ritual with a female queen. After mating the males die forming an action similar to a spinner fall and if near a trout stream create a hatch-like feeding event. The swarms take place typically in June-July.
