Barracuda just love to feed on Needlefish (Family Belonidae) who as a prey species are very vulnerable to attack. Needlefish hover just under the surface layer of the water where they float feeding on small fish. Their escape mechanism involves a series fast darting lunges that in some species like the Houndfish takes them out of the water skipping on the surface. This fast darting exit movement is just what you need to imitate with this fly as fast as you can to trigger a strike.
