This colorful Steelhead pattern was designed by Doug Stewart of Gresham OR in the early 1970’s. As the story goes he designed this pattern to fish the Mack’s Canyon section of the Deschutes River and intentionally misspelled the name so as to not draw additional anglers to that section of the river. This is an excellent Fall/Winter Steelhead pattern ideally suited for low water situations. Do not fish rivers of the Pacific Northwest without this pattern in your box. We have had success with this fly in the Midwest on Fall run Great Lakes Salmon.
