Barr's Uncased Caddis Tungsten: This is yet another really good imitation of the genus Hydropsyche, also known as net-spinning caddis or gray caddis. This is a free-living caddis that is caseless in that it uses its silk to attach to the bottom rather than building a case. Well populated across the United States their preferred habitat is riffles and runs of streams and rivers. A good tactic for this pattern is to dead-drift it near the bottom where it can be effective in spring and fall, and even in winter. The tungsten bead will keep this nymph close to the bottom where it needs to be to catch fish.
