CDC Emerger: CDC refers to "cul de canard" a type of feather found near the preen gland of many birds. For tying purposes waterfowl CDC feathers are usually used. Even though they distribute preen oil, CDC feathers are not impregnated with oil. Their superior floatability comes from the structure of the feather itself and the way the barbules radiate as well as their shape. CDC is just perfect for Emerger patterns that need to ride in the surface film.
