Blue Wing Olive Dry Fly: We could write a book about this pattern as it is one of the most common upwinged flies tied in modern times. Specifically the BWO imitates the Family Baetidae, Genera: Baetis, Diphetor, Labiobaetis, Acerpenna and related species that inhabit almost every trout stream in North America. There are approximately sixty different species populating this complex of Genera. These are extremely prolific mayflies that are an important component of the trout diet. Many species are most prolific in fertile streams and rivers with much aquatic vegetation present. Never be streamside without this pattern.
