Hex Spinner: The giant Mayfly known as Hexagenia limbata the Great Olive-Winged Drake also known as the Michigan Caddis. This species is distributed across the entire US with exceptionally large populations in the Midwest and western populations extending from New Mexico to Alaska. Spinner falls coincide with the hatch and usually run between 9:PM and Midnight during warm evenings. Cool overcast days may produce spinner falls several hours earlier. Hex Spinner Pattern Recipe: Hook- TMC100, Thread- Pale yellow 6/0, Wing- Pale yellow dyed elk hair mixed with yellow Krystal Flash tied in spent fashion, Thorax- Dubbed pale yellow superfine, Body- Dyed pale yellow elk hair tied extended past the hook bend by about half the hook shank with yellow foam Wingcase, Ribbing- Pale yellow thread palmered all the way down the body. Tail- Dyed yellow elk hair.
