Fly Family Selection - Quill Body Dry Flies
Quill body Dry Flies, always a realistic imitation of the segmented body of an aquatic insect.
|
Quill body dry flies imitate the segemented body of a Mayfly natural better than any other type of material. This Selection is made up of the most popular Quill Body Dry Flies and includes the Quill Gordon (Epeorus pleuralis), Blue Quill (Paraleptophlebia adoptive), Ginger Quill (Stenonema vicarium) and Red Quill (Ephemerella subvaria). Quill bodies date back to the very roots of American Fly Fishing and have passed the test of time partly because of the realistic look they achieve. A quill body recreates the smooth waxy segmented body of a Mayfly almost perfectly. Besides creating the perfect look, split quill segments are very buoyant helping the fly float and extremely durable giving the fly a good useable life span. Last, quill bodies can be made to represent the right diameter and carrot like shape of the natural mayfly body much more realistically than the natural or synthetic dubbing used in many patterns. With these four patterns you will be able to near-match the many different Mayfly species found across the country. This Selection includes three each: Quill Gordon sizes 12 & 14, Ginger Quill sizes 14 & 16, Red Quill sizes 12 & 14 and Blue Quill sizes 16 & 18.
