Insect Life Cycle Fly Selection - Trico
The Trico represents one of the top Ten Hatches of all time and is a must have on most streams and rivers
|
This is a Selection of the mighty little Trico a fly pattern that makes everyone’s short list of the top ten trout hatches worldwide. Tricos belong to the Family: Leptohyphidae, Genus; Tricorythodes (Little stout crawlers). This Gunus has three significant species to note: T. minutus (East, Midwest and West), T. stygiatus (East and Midwest) and T. allectus (East and Midwest). Tricos represent a very significant hatch to anglers as dense clouds of tiny duns and their associated spinner falls trigger major feeding events in slower moving sections of trout streams, rivers and lakes. Widely distributed across all of the US Tricos are multi-brooders producing solid morning hatches from June all the way until October and sporadic hatches there after well into November given proper climatic conditions. The emergence itself is a two act play with Male Duns hatching first and Female Duns following. In some conditions the Males will emerge in the evening with the female duns emerging the next morning. Spinner falls can be significant with Males falling first. It should be noted tha trout will become selective to Trico sex and only rarely will they feed on both sexes at the same time. In this selection you will find three each Trico Male Dun sizes 20,22 & 24, Trico Female Dun sizes 18,22 & 24, Trico male Spinner sizes 20, 22 & 24 and Trico Female Spinner sizes 18, 20 & 22.
