Insect Life Cycle Fly Selection - Sulfur
The Eastern Sulpher Dun is really two species that overlap hatching giving us many good weeks of fishing
|
This Selection is of the Eastern Sulphur Duns that belong to the Family: Ephemerellidae and the infamous Genus: Ephemerella. Specifically the Eastern Sulphur Duns are identified by species as; E.rotunda and E. invaria. The two species are very similar in many ways and with overlapping hatch timing are often mistaken as a single species. It should also be noted that E. rotunda is known as the Light Hendrickson and is often confused as a continuation of the earlier hatching Dark Hendrickson Dun classified as E. subvaria. Eastern Sulpher Duns emerge between mid-May and late June with a water temperature trigger in a range of 52 to 58 degrees. It is E. rotunda that hatches first with E. invaria emerging a few weeks later during a slightly higher water temperature range. In cooler weather emergence can begin between midday and 5 PM where as in warmer weather emergence can happen late morning from 10:00 to 11:30 or early evening from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. The nymphs have an wide range of tolerance to changing stream temperatures and water flows but do prefer to inhabit medium to fast flowing stretches of water. Prior to hatching the nymphs will migrate to adjacent slower stretches of water to prepare for their journey to the surface. In this Selection you will find three each Sulfur Duns sizes 14 & 16, Sparkle Dun size 16, Parachute Dun size 14, ParaEmerger size14, Emerger size 16, Spinner size 14 and Nymph size 16.
