Bloody Mari Bead Head Nymph
This is a real interesting all purpose nymph imitation that resembles many different types of aquatic insects.

This all purpose attractor nymph pattern was developed by Daryl Smoot to fish Steelhead in the Yakima River. He named it after his wife Marilyn, hence the unique spelling. Although this is a mighty fine Steelhead Nymph (in sizes 10-12) it works its magic even more effectively on trout e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. The combination of red floss and peacock hurl has proven itself over the years to be the correct combination for such famous dry fly attractor patterns as the Royal Coachman and the Royal Wulff. Just as those two patterns belong in every fly box so does this one. In smaller sizes this is an excellent choice for a dropper set up with I don’t know….maybe a large Royal Wulff? We often simply tie the dropper tippet tag end to the bend of the dry pattern leaving a space of from 12” to 36” with space being dependent on water depth and current speed. Along with the bead head this pattern is weighted with 10 to 12 wraps (depending on hook length) the body so it really stays in the sub-surface water column. This pattern is truly a keeper.
