Green Drake Emerger Fly: The Eastern Green Drake; Ephemera guttulata are burrowing nymphs that swim to the surface in anticipation of metamorphosis. Once there the emerging duns shed their nymphal casing and break through the surface film. If this happens in mid to fast flowing currents emergence can be more difficult giving the trout additional feeding opportunities. Hatches take place from late May to mid-June usually around dusk. This pattern has a poxy back that really adds to the life-like look of the overall pattern. Green Drake hatches are often sparce and as such trout often key in on the cripples and emergers. It is usually best to only cast this fly to feeding fish in a sparce hatch so as not to put the fish down.
