Striped Bass Patterns
Striped Bass fly patterns represent a category of flies that are very diverse in shape, color and size. This all stems from the many different types of prey species that Striped Bass key on during certain times of the year based on an abundance of availability.
Various runs of sand eels, squid, herring, menhaden, anchovies and mullet all play a special part in the diet of the striped bass at some point in time. With all of these prey species to imitate it is no wonder that Striped Bass flies are so diverse and plentiful.
Pictured here is a herring imitation called Major Herring created by Tom Kintz, which is a good example of a wide-body baitfish profile. In many of these baitfish imitations the profile is often more important that the color scheme.
